                                                      BILINGUAL INSTRUCTIONAL AIDE - CLASSROOM

 

                   POSITION SUMMARY

 

              Assists the teacher in providing individualized classroom assistance to bilingual or monolingual students.

 

              Reports to Appropriate Administrator

 

              ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

 

-      Uses Spanish and/or other languages in assisting in instruction of students

-      May provide light duty assistance in handling, lifting or caring for handicapped students

‑      Offers suggestions and observational data during planning sessions

-      Exercises talents that may be different than those of the teacher

-      Administers activities to individuals and small groups under the direction of the teacher

-      May lead discussion groups and other activities and, where applicable, may lead games, music and storytelling

-      Tutors individuals in accordance with guidance plans made in conference with the teacher

-      Creates displays of students' work

-      May assist teachers who are involved in teaching or curriculum development during the summer

-      Assists office staff in preparation of curriculum and related materials

-            Attends training meetings and faculty meetings

-            Exhibits patience, courtesy and tact when dealing with others

‑      Performs related duties as required

 

 

              QUALIFICATIONS

 

A.         Required

 

              -       High School diploma or GED and;

-              An Associate's or higher degree or;

-              At least two years of study at an institution of higher education or;

-              Must pass a skills assessment

-            Passing score on bilingual skills test

 

              B.     Desired

 

-            One year of experience working with children

-            Considerable knowledge of basic English

 

              PHYSICAL AND MENTAL REQUIREMENTS

 

-            Ability to concentrate for extended periods of time

-            Ability to remain seated for extended periods of time

-            Ability to reach, stoop, bend, twist and carry up to 20 pounds

-            Ability to operate digital office equipment
