New York Times Learning Network - provides students in grades 3-12 with news summaries, daily news quiz, word of the day, test prep question of the day, daily lesson plans, news snapshot, and more.

Sadlier Oxford Phonics Activities - a great wealth of phonics activities for grades K-6.

Scholastic Explorers - students read and interact with information about explorers such as Native American cultures, ocean life, endangered environments, and more.

Language Arts WebQuests - WebQuests are Internet activities that promote critical thinking in students as they solve real world tasks in an inquiry based learning environment using reading, comprehension and problem solving skills.

Book Adventure - a free reading motivation program similar to Accelerated Reader for children in grades K-8. The site allows students to create their own book lists from over 6,000 recommended titles.  The students then take multiple-choice quizzes on the books they've read in print and are eligible to earn points and prizes. The students must register to use the site; however, registration is free.

Student Publishing and Activities
Folktale Writers Workshop - students learn from two authors about writing folktales.  The students learn how to write folk tales, brainstorm ideas and can publish their folk tales on the web.

Houghton Mifflin Reading Scene: Online Book Reading Group - provides several books with information and activities and allows students to post answers to questions that others can read.

Houghton Mifflin Current Events - provides a news article, quiz, word game, and a place for students to share their feelings on news topics.

Tools
Interactive Venn Diagram - students enter a title and information for the two circles and then can add words and drag them to the appropriate part of the Venn Diagram.  Students can print the Venn Diagram.

Stapleless Book - allows students to select several format to create a simple book that can be printed.

Interactive Timeline - allows students to create timelines.
