CDO Academic Decathlon Team Wins 15th Consecutive Regional Title
Congratulations to Canyon del Oro High School's Academic Decathlon team for earning their record-breaking 15th consecutive regional title at the Region III competition over the weekend. Next month they will attempt to become the first team to win three consecutive state championships in more than 10 years. Good luck! You are the Pride of Amphi!
Golf Tournament Raises Money for Project Graduation
The 13th Annual Oro Valley Cup Golf Tournament benefiting Project Graduation was held on Feb. 5 at the Oro Valley Community & Recreation Center. Nearly 50 teams from around Tucson participated in the event. All of the proceeds raised from the tournament go towards covering the expenses for providing an alcohol- and drug-free all-night graduation celebration for 1,100 graduating seniors from Amphitheater, Canyon del Oro and Ironwood Ridge High Schools. Since 2004, “Project Grad” celebrations have kept some 12,000 graduating high school seniors from Amphitheater schools off the streets in a safe and sober environment on graduation night.
National Signing Day: Student-Athletes Sign Letters of Intent
Amphitheater Schools have a tradition of outstanding athletic programs. Every year top athletes head to colleges and universities on scholarship. February 3 was National Signing Day and Canyon del Oro and Ironwood Ridge had a total of 16 students sign national letters of intent to play college athletics. Congratulations and best of luck to our student-athletes.
Kindness Shines at Amphi
Every year fifth grade students from across the District meet to learn about building peace and being kind at the District Kindness Rally. Copper Creek fifth graders and students from each elementary school gathered to learn about ways they can promote kindness among their peers.
The students thanked teachers for their hard work and kind acts, and they participated in a high energy program with the “Be Kind People.”
The closing ceremony included a balloon and dove release to signify peace.
