    Canyon del Oro High School has a 50-year long reputation of providing students with an excellent educational foundation to prepare them for post-secondary opportunities. The campus was built in 1962 and started as a middle school. CDO was founded as a public comprehensive 9-12 high school in 1964. The school is located in Oro Valley, Arizona, located 6 miles (9.7 km) north of Tucson at the base of Pusch Ridge. At one time, CDO had over 3000 students enrolled prior to the building of Ironwood Ridge High School in 2001.

    School Demographics:

    The CDO demographic continues to change slightly over time. These at the current demographics:

     Average Daily Attendance – Year End: 90.0%

    Free & Reduced Lunch: 25% (2010-2011 it was 22%)

    Current Enrollment: 1610

    English Language Learners: .1%

    Special Education Students: 11.2%

    REACH Students: 12.9%

    Graduation Rate: 83.2%

    Drop-Out Rate: 1.8%

    Ethnic Distribution:

    Asian: 3.5%

    Black: 2.9%

    Hispanic: 31.8%

    Native American: 1.7%

    White: 59.1%

    Multi-racial: .9%

    These distributions have remained consistent since 2010-11 with the exception of a 6% increase in Hispanic students and a 6% decrease in White students.

    CDO has consistently been rated as an “A” school by ADE since 2011-2012 based on AIMS.

    Accomplishments:

    • Canyon del Oro continues to be statistically one of the highest achieving schools in Arizona, both academically and athletically.
    • CDO has received the grade of "A" from the Arizona Department of Education during each of past three years.
    • Newsweek Magazine rated CDO in the top 5% of public high schools in 2011, 2012, and 2013.
    • The Washington Post recognized CDO in 2012 and 2013 for "The High School Challenge".
    • U.S. News & World Report recognized CDO on their "Best High Schools" list in 2012, 2013, and 2015.
    • The CDO Preschool is the first Career and Technical Education (CTE) preschool to receive a five-star rating statewide.
    • CDO is also home to the 2011, 2014 & 2015 Arizona Academic Decathlon State Champions.
    • CDO became an International Baccalaureate World School in 2012.
