Call to Order and Signing of Visitors Register

Dr. Kenneth Smith called the meeting to order.

Pledge of Allegiance
Dr. Vicki Balentine led the Pledge of Allegiance.

There were no public comments.

1. Training of Governing Board and Superintendent in Interest-Based Employee Negotiations Process
Barbara Kohl, La Cima Middle School, provided a history of Amphi salary negotiations. In 1995, the district moved from a "win-win" model to Interest-Based Negotiations. Steve Barba, of the Arizona Alliance, trained Amphi people.

Bargaining styles were compared to the Interest-Based style; Board members reflected on and discussed these styles. Todd Jaeger, Donny Kelley and Mike Gemma are the Superintendent's representatives. They will take direction from the Board via the Superintendent. Need for goodwill, good faith, and accurate information were mentioned as critical ingredients for a successful process.

A break was taken from 10:05 a.m. to 10:20 a.m.

Ms. Kohl continued her presentation, referring the Board to handout materials she had prepared on the negotiations process (attached).

The need for consistent feedback was mentioned; there was discussion of options for gathering feedback. The Governing Board's role in the process was discussed.

Board members shared their thoughts/feelings on the morning's presentation.

There were no public comments.

A motion to adjourn was made by Dr. Barrabee and seconded by Mr. Prout. Adjournment was at 12:00 p.m.
