Welcome to the Amphitheater REACH Program for the Gifted

REACH - Realizing Excellence Through Academic & Creative Help

The REACH Program identifies students in accordance with Arizona Revised Statutes.
About the REACH Program
Students who receive a score in the 97th percentile or above in verbal, quantitative, or non-verbal reasoning, on a state approved test, are provided with formal services beginning in first grade. Arizona school districts are required to use tests approved by the State Board for testing and identifying gifted children. The list of approved tests does not include achievement tests such as the Stanford 9 or the Iowa Test of Basic Skills. State approved tests are typically cognitive ability tests.

The REACH office is closed from the 1st of June through the 1st of August each year. E-mail messages are retrieved periodically.  Phone messages will be returned after August 1st.

Wilson K-8 and other Amphi sites were recognized by Johns Hopkins Center for Talented Youth.

How do the proposed cuts to educational funding in Arizona impact the REACH/Gifted Department?

Many of you have asked how the proposed budget cuts in education will affect the REACH/Gifted Department in the next year.
The gifted grant, which districts apply for each year, will not be funded. This grant has paid for staff development, materials, testing materials, student participation in academic challenges, among other expenses. The grant has never been sufficient to fund personnel.
Our district has supported and will continue to support services to our gifted students, gifted specialists, and our programs. We will have REACH/Gifted services next year, and we will continue to advocate and ask for your help for appropriately funded K-12 education in Arizona.
