ENTRY TO INSTRUCTIONAL SKILLS MODULE

Objective: Teachers will improve instructional practices to increase student achievement.


Criteria for initial placement
Mandatory for experienced teachers new to the district and 2007-2008 Residency teachers
At least a 2/5ths contract, minimum 50% of time with students
OR
First year in the Career Ladder Program for experienced teachers in the district--Submit Application
At least a 2/5ths contract, minimum 50% of time with students




PROGRAM EXPECTATIONS


PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT
  • Participation in Entry to Instructional Skills Orientation
  • Participation in the Effective Teaching Conference (if new to the district), July 30 & 31, August 1, 2008
  • Participation in pre-observation conference
  • Participation in three (3) EIS-IS training sessions
  • Preparation of a Professional Growth Plan Draft
  • Maintenance and completion of a teacher portfolio, organized with a Table of Contents
  • Adherence to all due dates
  • Administrators will be notified regarding participation in the Career Ladder Program


INSTRUCTIONAL SKILLS
  • District evaluation requirements are met through site administrator summative evaluation and Career Ladder formative observations in the Fall and a 2-week window in the Spring
  • Two (2) scheduled formative classroom observations by Career Ladder instructional support leaders with written narratives, one first quarter and one second quarter
  • Two (2) conferences (teacher and instructional support leader), one following each classroom observation
  • Three (3) second-semester summative observations by the site administrator and Career Ladder instructional support leaders during the Spring 2-week window
  • Five (5) teacher reflections, one following each classroom observation
  • One (1) Ratings conference (teacher, instructional support leaders, and site administrator) following the 2-week window based on A.T.P.E.S. and Career Ladder Performance Criteria


  • To meet the standard for the Entry to Instructional Skills level and advance to Instructional Skills level the following year, teachers must earn Career Ladder ratings of at least Meets Requirements, 1 in Pre-Instruction, Presentation, Learning Environment, Student Learning and Professionalism

  • To Fast Track with the opportunity to move directly to Entry to Student Outcomes level the following year, teachers must earn Career Ladder ratings of at least two Exhibits Model Quality, 3 and two Exceeds Requirements, 2 in Pre-Instruction, Presentation, Learning Environment and Student Learning, and at least Meets Requirements, 1 in Professionalism

FIRST SEMESTER--Entry to Instructional Skills
  • Pre-observation conference with instructional support leaders by September 12, 2008 (Administrator attendance is optional)
  • One (1) scheduled formative observation with written narrative prior to October 10, 2008
  • Participate in EIS-IS Training Series, session #1 by October 30, 2008
  • One (1) scheduled formative observation with written narrative prior to December 12, 2008
  • Two (2) teacher reflections, one following each formative observation
  • Two conferences (teacher and instructional support leaders), one following each observation
  • A.T.P.E.S. evaluation conducted by site administrator
  • Maintenance of a teacher portfolio, organized with a Table of Contents

SECOND SEMESTER--Entry to Instructional Skills
  • Participate in EIS-IS Training Series, session #2 by January 28, 2009
  • Participate in EIS-IS Training Series, session #3 by March 3, 2009
  • One round of A.T.P.E.S. observations during a 2-week window with teacher, instructional support leaders, and administrator participating
    • One (1) scheduled formal observation with lesson plan submitted prior to observation
    • Two (2) unscheduled informal observations
    • Instructional support leaders and administrator will determine District and Career Ladder ratings in a consensus conference
  • Ratings conference (teacher, instructional support leaders, and site administrator) is completed by April 15, 2009
    • Ratings based on data collected during the three (3) observations
    • Teacher brings and is ready to discuss three (3) typed/written reflections on observations
  • Final conference (teacher and instructional support leaders) to be held by May 8, 2009
    • Professional Growth Plan Draft is designed based on ratings, suggestions from the ratings conference and must relate to/support the school improvement plan/site 301 plan
    • Professional Growth Plan Draft Plan is included in teacher portfolio
    • Plan is implemented the following year with modifications, if necessary
    • Review completed teacher portfolio, organized with a Table of Contents
    • Sign final paperwork

Meeting Entry to Instructional Skills Program Expectations qualifies a teacher to choose to participate in the Career Ladder Program at Instructional Skills level the following year.

Not meeting Entry to Instructional Skills Program Expectations requires a teacher to complete an Application, repeat Entry to Instructional Skills level and meet all Program Expectations before choosing to participate at the Instructional Skills level.
