SEMESTER RESEARCH OPTION MODULE
Objective: Teacher will research and document the impact of new methods of instruction on student achievement.
Criteria for initial placement At least a 2/5ths contract, minimum 50% of time with students Career Ladder Program Expectations were met at Collaborative Action Research

PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT
- Participation in CAR Option Orientation or CAR Orientation
- Participation in an independent research project
- Participation in three (3) Collaborative Group meetings
- Maintenance and completion of a teacher portfolio, organized with a Table of Contents and aligned to Semester Research Option Expectations And Standards For A Quality Portfolio
- Adherence to all due dates
August 29, 2008 -- Semester Research Option Application, if not approved see CAR Module September 19, 2008 -- Meet with the Career Ladder instructional support leader (ISL) with Action Plan #8-10 completed December 5, 2008 -- Meet with ISL with Action Plan Draft #1-10 completed and to discuss research question January 23, 2009 -- Pre-assessment Submittal to ISL Optional -- Mid-assessment Submittal to ISL May 15, 2009 -- Post-assessment Submittal to ISL
INSTRUCTIONAL SKILLS
- Instruction is modified and adjusted based upon analysis of student data
- A.T.P.E.S. evaluation conducted by site administrator
ACTION RESEARCH
- Independent research is conducted Fall semester
- Applied research is current and relevant to the focus question
- Bibliography is consistently updated
- Research implementation is well documented and dated
STUDENT OUTCOMES
- Development of a Collaborative Action Research Action Plan based on Arizona State Standards/School Site Focus
- Classroom implementation of new research tied to Action Plan
- Case Study Cover Sheets completed for three (3) students - portfolio data supports academic outcomes incorporating Critical Components of Student Learning
- Labeled and dated evidence of Critical Components of Student Learning in case study students' work
- Class Data Sheet for entire population with a minimum of two (2) assessments (pre, post)
- Interventions & Extensions documented
- Analysis/reflection based on reflection prompts

- Conduct and document independent research, Fall semester

Meeting Semester Research Option Program Expecations qualifies a teacher to participate in CAR the following year.
Not meeting Semester Research Option Program Expectations will result in a return to the traditional salary schedule or require the teacher to meet with the Career Ladder Manager prior to September 4, 2009 to create a Professional Growth Plan if choosing to remain in the Career Ladder Program.
