THE PHILOSOPHY OF THE ALTERNATIVE PROGRAM...

The Amphitheater School District Governing Board created the Amphitheater Alternative High School Program to meet the needs of students who, for a variety of reasons, learn best by following a non-traditional path. The Alternative Program is located on a separate campus and serves students from high schools in the Amphitheater District. The goals of the Program include helping students to earn graduation credit, improve academic skills, refine decision-making and problem-solving techniques, and explore educational and vocational opportunities after high school.

THE TEACHERS...

The staff consists of experienced teachers who are specialists in their chosen subjects. In addition to their daily teaching responsibilities, these teachers write individualized learning packets (ILP's) used by students to earn credit toward their graduation.

THE STUDENTS...

High school students eligible for the Program include those who have entered the District past normal admission dates; students who cannot attend school full time because of health reasons; students who are credit deficient; students who have not performed well in traditional high-school settings; former students who have dropped out of school; and student-parents with job and family responsibilities.

THE CURRICULUM...

Each student is assigned to an instructor who provides one-on-one instruction. Specifically, the Alternative Program offers a variety of required and elective subjects presented in an independent study format that uses individualized learning packets and classes. Students must earn at least 1.25 credits per quarter to remain in our program and need to allow themselves adequate time outside of school hours to complete their individualized learning packetwork.
