After School Tutoring

Days and Times
After school tutoring will begin on September 2, 2008. A diverse group of tutors is available to help students in all academic areas Monday through Wednesday from 3:30pm to 5:30pm.

Location
After school tutoring will be held in room 810B. The computer lab in room 809 is also available for tutoring students. The computer lab can only be used for school related assignments.

Attendance and Other Information
Students can be referred to tutoring by administrators, teachers, parents or themselves. After school tutoring is a drop-in, as needed program. Students can come as often as needed and do not need to fill out a registration form. Students must sign in as they enter tutoring. This sign in sheet is used to determine daily attendance. If a teacher, parent or administrator wishes to check on the attendance of a specific student, they can call the tutoring classroom at 696-6308. A daily attendance form is also available at the end of each tutoring day for any student whose parent or teacher would like one. It is the responsibility of the student to get this form to the adult.

It is the expectation that students will be responsible and come to tutoring on time, with work, and be well behaved. After school tutoring is a privilege, students who are consistently late, do not have work, and are not well behaved, will be asked to leave and not return. All school rules apply in tutoring. The breaking of those rules can result in a referral to the office.

Students are expected to remain in tutoring until 5:30pm, unless a parent or guardian has made other arrangements with the tutoring staff. If a student finishes all of his/her work before 5:30pm, he/she may also call home and have on the tutoring staff speak with a parent/guardian or responsible adult, who says it is all right for the student to leave early. Documentation is kept of students who leave early. Included in the documentation is the name of the adult that the staff spoke with, and the time the student leaves. Students who leave early must either walk directly home or be picked up by a parent/guardian or responsible adult, at the time they leave tutoring.

Once tutoring is over all students need to go home. If the student normally takes the bus home, there is a late bus available for them. The late bus leaves the school by 5:45pm. Students who walk home need to leave school as soon as tutoring is over. Parents/ Guardians, if you pick your student up after tutoring, we ask that you please do so before 5:45pm.

If you have any questions please call Michael Powers (AMS Tutoring Coordinator) at 696-6308.
