Evacuation Plan

To ensure the safety of our students and Canyon Del Oro High School, caution and good judgment is the first expectation in implementing a successful emergency plan.

  1. The signal to indicate an EVACUATION will be the continuous sounding of a fire alarm horn.
  2. On the signal, each class or group shall proceed in an orderly fashion to the outside area designated by the evacuation map located in the Emergency Folder.
  3. During an evacuation, all staff is to leave the building.
  4. The first student to reach the classroom door is to hold it open until all students are out of the room.
  5. All windows and doors of each classroom should be closed prior to leaving the room; doors should be locked.
  6. Teachers will be the last person to leave the room and must take their grade book.
  7. Each teacher will assemble his/her class in the general evacuation area and remain there quietly until notified to return to the classroom.
  8. Teachers will advise and escort their students 50 feet away from any building for the duration of the drill.
  9. Teachers will carry their attendance books with them and take attendance at the designated evacuation area.
  10. Teachers will complete the Additional/Missing Person Report after taking attendance.
  11. Students will remain in their groups so that any access roads, entrances, or exits that could be used by emergency vehicles will remain clear.
  12. When it is anticipated that it will be necessary to remain outside the buildings for a prolonged period of time, an announcement will be made that all students will go with their teachers as a group to the football stadium.
  13. The return signal will be announced over the PA system.
  14. Teachers are responsible for organizing their classes and informing them of evacuation drill procedures.
