To the Canyon Del Oro English Department page. Here you may find course information for the various classes offered at CDO. Students may find important links to some of their own English classes.
The English curriculum is designed to offer each student a balance of literature and composition aimed at developing proficiency in the Arizona State Standards for Language Arts. We offer a four-year sequence of Advanced Placement classes for those who desire an accelerated program and a two-year sequence of Skill-Intensive classes for those who need literature and writing concepts presented at a slower pace.
Advanced Placement English Eligibility
Students who have consistently demonstrated outstanding skills in English may elect to sign up for an Advanced Placement English class. Any student who may have questions regarding the demands of such a class should discuss the decision with his/her counselor, current English teacher and the English Department Chairperson. Prerequisites for sucess are a strong background in grammar and composition. The student will also need extra time and effort outside of class. Students are also expected to take the Advanced Placement Exam.
Skill Intensive Eligibility
Students who have demonstrated a need for remediation in English may be recommended for Skill Intensive English class through a counselor or teacher. Any student who feels he/she may qualify for this course should contact his/her counselor regarding the screening process.
