Accelerated Reader Club

Because we are partially funded by tax credit money, we need to be designated as a "club" and not just a program. Thanks to the generosity of our PTO, tax credits, and individual donations, we have more than 8,900 quizzes at this time. The price of buying a quiz has gone up this year to $2.99 per quiz, so we are very grateful for all donations. Please remember the Library when you are thinking of your tax credit donation. You are able to specify if you want the money to go to quizzes and books, or prizes.

Students are tested in the Star Reader Program which tells us a reading level range. Students are allowed to read one full level below their test score because the non-fiction genre is more difficult. However, if you have a student who tests really high (completely out of their grade level), they are still allowed to take quizzes within their grade. For instance, if you have a second grader who tests 4.7--6.3, he/she may still take quizzes that are appropriate for second graders. Note: Younger students who check out books that are higher than grade level, may be exposed to more mature reading material. All of our AR books are tagged on the inside with the book level and how many points it is worth if the student scores 100%. As long as a student scores 60% or higher, they will receive a portion of the points. If a student scores less than 100%, you can make the calculation by taking their percentage earned and multiplying it times the point value of the book. Students are only allowed to take the quiz one time. There are no re-takes. Once an Accelerated Reader Quiz has begun, parents are not allowed to help or "coach" students. A link to AR Certification Levels is on the menu bar on the left side of my site.

While Kindergarteners are unable to earn trophies, they are able to earn AR Medals. Kindergarten teachers recommend reading 15 minutes daily with your students and returning seven reading logs.

The School requirement for the AR Club is $.50 to be given to the classroom teacher. This fee will go towards enhancing the AR program.

Please remember, when accessing the AR Quiz List (please see link), you may conduct your search by Title, Author, Subject, Book Level, etc. At the very top of that screen, you can either click "Only Quizzes the School Library has a Book for" or "All Quizzes, Even if the Book is not at School Library".

Parents and students need to be aware that just because the Scholastic Book Order states that a book is Accelerated Reader, does not mean that we own the quiz. Please click the link for "AR Quiz List" on my home page or the side menu bar for this information.
