Our Library opens 15 minutes before school starts and closes 20 minutes after school ends.
Each teacher is given six passes and students may visit the Library to check out or return books or take Accelerated Reader quizzes if they have one of these passes. Passes are unnecessary before or after school.
Our Kindergarten and First Grade Classes visit the Library each week. Second through fifth graders visit every other week. Kindergarteners and First Graders are allowed to check out one book and Second through Fifth Graders may check out two. As the year progresses and students return reading logs to their teachers, they are able to earn the right to one extra book.
We are one of only two elementary schools in the Amphitheater District that participates in Accelerated Reader in grades 1 through 5. Currently we have more than 8,900 quizzes available to students and more than 30,000 books. We average more circulations than any other elementary school in the Amphitheater School District.
In an effort to save paper (and trees), we will only send date due slips in books checked out to Kindergarteners and First Graders. Books are checked out for two weeks, but Kinders and First Graders should try to return their books every week so that they are able to get something new. Some teachers require that the books come back every single week. Please check with your child's teacher. If students have not been able to finish their books in a two-week time period, they may renew at least once. If holds are placed on books, we cannot renew more than once.
We encourage recycling of plastic six-pack rings. Students may bring them to the Library and I will send them off to have them sanitized, melted down and made into new rings.
Our last day of classes is Friday, April 30th. We will close then to conduct our yearly inventory. When the Library closes for the summer break, students are encouraged to participate in the Summer Reading Program at the Tucson-Pima Public Library. Prizes are awarded at the public library for participation and when students return to school in August, we also award a small prize.
