August 2008
Greetings Harelson Parents:

The 2008-2009 school year is off to a wonderful start. The first day of school went very smoothly and students seem to have transitioned very well into their new classrooms. Thank you to all the parents, students and teachers for their help in making the start of this school year a huge success.

It is very enjoyable seeing all of our returning families and it is a pleasure meeting new families that have enrolled their children at Harelson for the very first time. Many of the items I will address in this letter will be communicated at the Parent Information Nights, so I will briefly summarize the most important points of interest.

School Hours: The school hours at Harelson Elementary School are 8:00 a.m.-2:15 p.m. The first bell will ring at 7:55 for students to report to their classrooms and students should be in their seats by the second bell, which rings at 8:00 a.m. The end of the day bell will ring at 2:15 p.m. We will be opening up the gates at about 2:10 p.m. for parents to enter our campus. Please do not go through the office to enter our campus at the end of the day. If you need to come on our campus during the scheduled school hours, please sign in and pick up a visitor or volunteer badge.

Early Release Days: We will be having an early release day each Wednesday this year. The dismissal time will be at 1:05 p.m. Please make sure that your children know how they are getting home and they are picked up on time. Thank you.

Volunteers: We have a lot of support from parents at Harelson in the area of volunteering in classrooms and getting involved in many of the functions. We are looking at training five parents on the copy machine to become copy parents. These people would come in once a week for a couple of hours to make copies on the Xerox machine for the teachers. If you are interested please let me know.

I am looking forward to another very rewarding school year. If you have any questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to give me a call. Thank you for your help in preparing your children for the new school year. We have the very best educators at Harelson and we will continue to have high expectations to help all students reach their full potential in the areas of academic achievement and social behaviors. I wish everyone the very best in the upcoming school year.

Sincerely,

Andrew T. Heinemann
