Dear Parents and Children:

It is with the greatest pleasure to welcome you and your child to the Harelson Community and give you a little information about myself.

I am a graduate of the University of Wisconsin – Madison and moved to Tucson in 1986 to take on my very first teaching position. I was a classroom teacher for 10 years and in that time taught 4th, 5th and 7th grade. I received my Master’s Degree at Northern Arizona University in 1996 and opened up Wilson K-8 School while serving as the Assistant Principal for six years. This year I am entering my seventh year at Harelson as your Principal.

I entered education because I believed I could make a difference in the life of a child. I cherish and value the process of education. From my own childhood I can remember teachers who took me by the hand and guided my steps, who gave me support, helped me believe in myself, and gave me the tools to think independently.

As a school administrator, I believe there is no greater opportunity than the individual journey to knowledge and understanding. I feel that my staff of dedicated teachers and I can make a difference in your child’s life. Parent and family involvement plays a significant role in determining children’s intelligence, competence and achievement. Therefore, it is incumbent upon our school to bring together each family within our school and focus on meeting the diverse and challenging educational needs of every child. Working together we can help each individual child strive for excellence and help to develop positive self-esteem.

I enthusiastically look forward to meeting all of you and know we have the ability to make our school a positive learning experience for all that attend.

Sincerely,

Andrew T. Heinemann
