Greetings Harelson Parents:

As the Thanksgiving holiday approaches, we are entering a very busy time of year. Some of the activities include: Grade Level Performances, Class Performances, Bobcat Artisan’s Market, and the day to day functions in the regular classrooms. Please remember to have patience with your children and compliment them daily on their positive accomplishments.

Bonnie Keene – Walmart Teacher of the Year: Congratulations to Bonnie Keene, 4th grade teacher for being selected as a Walmart Teacher of the year. We are very proud of Mrs. Keene and all the wonderful things she does with her students and for Harelson. Way to go Bonnie!!!

Harelson is an EXCELLING School! For the sixth year in a row, Harelson has received the highest label that a school can receive in the state of Arizona. Harelson is one of two schools in our entire district that has received this Excelling label for the last six years. We are all very proud of this accomplishment and I want to personally thank and congratulate the students, parents and teachers for all of their dedication, hard work and commitment to excellence. Way to Go Harelson!!!

Friendly Reminders: Students should not be reporting to school in the morning before 7:45 a.m. The teacher contract day does not start until 7:45 a.m. and this is the time teachers report to morning duty on the playground. We want all of our students to be supervised and are concerned about the safety and welfare of every student.

Please set appointments with teachers: As you know, many of our teachers come to school very early in the morning to get organized for the day and stay very late in the evenings to prepare for the next days instruction. I am observing parents trying to meet with teachers before or after school without an appointment. Please remember that the teachers use this non-student contact time to prepare quality instruction for all students. If you need to meet with a teacher, please set up an appointment, so that they are able to plan accordingly. They will be very willing to meet with you and will be able to give you their full attention when an appointment is made. Your cooperation in this matter will be greatly appreciated.

Barnes and Noble Book Fair: Mark your Calendar! The Harelson book fair at Barnes and Noble will be held on Saturday, December 6th starting at 9:00 a.m. to close. Bring your vouchers in and purchase anything in the store and Harelson will receive a percentage of your purchase. Don’t forget to bring your vouchers. A big thank you to Lisa Ferko and Lisa DaDeppo for organizing this wonderful event.

Tax Credits: How can you help our school if you are unable to volunteer in the classroom? The Tax Credit Program is an easy way to help support extra-curricular activities or functions. We use tax credit money for the fine arts, field trips, after school clubs, Odyssey of the Mind and our Reading Crew Program. Please help us to continue strengthening these child-centered activities with your tax credit contributions. Remember you can give 400.00 for a married couple.

Special Thank you: A huge thank you goes out to Jenny Carrillo, Nancy Smith and Mary Elder for all their time and energy in creating a very successful Direct Giving Campaign. We couldn’t have raised over 20,000 dollars for the school without you. You’re the best!!

Let’s continue to have a positive and productive year.

Sincerely,
Andrew T. Heinemann
