Harelson History

Introduction
Harelson Elementary opened its doors in the fall of 1960. Named after a long time teacher in the Amphi school district- Winifred Harelson, our faculty and staff are very proud of the long history and academic achievements. Currently we are working on displaying mementos, pictures and documents from the past in our 2nd computer lab in the 5th & 6th grade wing. Unfortunately almost all the history of our school from the begining to the early eighties was wiped out in a flood 10 years ago. If you have any items that you would like to donate to the school from the period of 1960-1983 we would appreciate it. We can scan any picture or document into our computers so that you'll still have the original. We will be updating this web page frequently. Contact either Jill Neubert or Paul Konecny if you have any items or information that you would like to share.

Winifred Harelson
Every year on her birthday, the students at Harelson would host a birthday party for Mrs. Harelson. She was very thankful to the students and would always send a thank you note with her thoughts and wishes. Several of these notes are on display.
Time Capsule Harelson's Time capsule
We have been trying to locate the Harelson time capsule that was buried on Arbor day 1964. We have an idea of where it was buried but need the exact location. Several attempts to find it were unsuccessful. If anybody Knows of any former students or teachers that were involved in the burial please contact us. We would like to display the contents for all to enjoy.
