A Message from Your Principal

3rd Quarter – 2009-2010

I hope this newsletter finds you happy and healthy and enjoying this new year. There have already been several important events that have happened this quarter that I would like to tell you about and several more that will be taking place, so please mark your calendars. First of all, know that you are welcome at La Cima and that your attendance at our events is so important to your student’s success. It also makes them feel so proud that you are here to support them.

Today we had our official ribbon cutting ceremony to celebrate the completion of our new administration building, library and eight classrooms. I’d like to take this opportunity to thank our Blue Ribbon Committee and all of our Amphi voters for making this project possible. La Cima Middle School is a beautiful place for students to learn. These improvements to our campus were certainly needed and are appreciated.

On Friday, January 9, we recognized our students who had perfect attendance second quarter with Eegee’s during lunch. Our students really seem to enjoy this new tradition. We will be celebrating this accomplishment every quarter. La Cima appreciates students and parents who make attendance at school a priority because in Amphitheater School District, “Everyday Matters.”

On Friday, January 15 we held our second Honor Roll Breakfast. We had a wonderful turnout and were grateful for all of the families who came to school to support your students. Many students were recognized for making the Principal’s Honor Roll (4.0), Cardinal Honor Roll (3.5 or better) and the La Cima Honor Roll (3.0 or better). Congratulations to all of the students and parents who were recognized for this accomplishment. Thank you to Patrick Nelson, our Associate Superintendent, for being our guest speaker at this event. He was able to share some great advice with our students. Our appreciation is also extended to Einstein’s Bagels and Mimi’s Cafeteria for providing the tasty bagels and muffins for this wonderful event.

Our annual math night will be happening on Thursday, January 28 from 6:00-8:00 p.m. Please join your student as they travel with their math passport form presentation to presentation. It will be a fun and informative adventure.

On Monday, February 22 all of our eighth graders will be invited to go on a career shadowing experience. To be able to provide this opportunity to all of our students, we need the help of many parent volunteers. If you are willing to chaperone this event, please call our counselor, Suzanne Graun, at 696-6738.

As always, please remember that I have an open-door policy. If you have any questions or concerns, please feel free to contact me at 696-6742. I look forwarding to seeing you at our school events this quarter and the remainder of the year.

Fondly,
Christine Sullivan

Mensage De La Directora

I’m excited to be calling La Cima home this year! A little bit about myself: I’m from Michigan, and moved to Texas after college to teach. I’m new to Tucson this year and am grateful to all the staff and students who have welcomed me to La Cima. When I’m not at school I love to read, run, hike, camp & travel with my husband. What I love most about working with students is that I’m constantly learning and being challenged to try new ideas. My favorite quote is from Gandhi: “We must be the change we want to see in the world.” I hope that this year La Cima students & staff will be a force for positive change in our school & community.
