| Important Immunization Information |
|
Immunization Information In order to be in compliance with the laws of the State of Arizona, all students who are enrolled in grades K-12 must present proof of being vaccinated with two doses of Measles, Mumps & Rubella vaccination (MMR) and the vaccination series for Hepatitis B before attending classes
Hepatitis B vaccination is usually administered in a series of three doses. The second dose should be administered one month following the first dose. The third dose should be administered at least three months after the second dose and at least four months after the first dose. Using the Hepatitis Merck Recombivax is also an option for adolescents aged 11 to 14 years. The Hepatitis Merck Recombivax vaccine is given in a series of two double doses versus three doses. If the Merck Recombivax vaccine is used the second dose must be administered no sooner than four months after the initial dose.
Currently students in Kindergarten, first, second, third, fourth, seventh, eighth and ninth and tenth grades must show proof of having been vaccinated for Chickenpox (Varicella) or the parent must complete a form stating that their child actually had the Chickenpox Disease. Each school year, two grades are added to the required list until the year 2010 when all grades will be required.
Starting in August 2008, all students who are in sixth grade and who are eleven years of age will be required to get two more vaccinations. All sixth graders who are at least eleven years old will be required to have a Tetanus Diphtheria acellular Pertussis (Tdap) booster if it has been five years since the last DTP booster. All sixth graders will be required to have Meningococcal (Menactra) vaccine for school enrollment. The new requirement will be implemented as follows:
Sept. 1, 2008 students entering 6th grade Sept. 1, 2009 students entering 6th and 7th grades Sept. 1, 2010 students entering 6th, 7th and 8th grades Sept. 1, 2011 students entering 6th, 7th, 8th and 9th grades Sept. 1, 2012 students entering 6th, 7th, 8th, 9th and 10th grades Sept. 1, 2013 students entering 6th, 7th, 8th, 9th, 10th and 11th grades Sept. 1, 2014 students entering 6th through 12th grades
Pima County Health Department is recommending that all students receive the Tdap booster if it has been five years since the last childhood DTP shot because Tdap booster offers protection against Whooping Cough disease.
Thank you for your help in making sure your student is in compliance with the Arizona State requirements.
