MAP Interpretation

Interpreting MAP Scores

1. Print your Class Reports by RIT score.
There are two ways to print the class reports. One way alphabetizes the students. The second way arranges them by score.

2. Identify the students in you class that fall below the average score for
your grade level (Spring or Fall). These students need remediation.

Use the Table labeled District RIT Medians for grades 2-10. Look for your grade, then subject area, and finally the time the test was administered (Spring, Winter or Fall). This give you the median score of students in your grade level nationally. If you have students below this RIT score, draw a line to separate them from the others on your class report.

3. Identify the students in your class that above the average score for
your grade level (Spring or Fall). These students need enrichment.

Use the Table labeled District RIT Medians for grades 2-10. Look for your grade, then subject area, and finally the time the test was administered (Spring, Winter or Fall). This gives you the medain score of students in your grade level nationally. If you have students above this RIT score, draw a line to separate them from the others on your class report.

4. Look at the Standard Deviation of the goal performance strands on your
class report.

If you have double digit standard deviations, you may consider differentiated instruction. Higher standard deviations mean that your students have a wide variety of academic capabilities in that performance goal area. If you have single digit standard deviation, whole group instruction may be appropriate.

5. Use the Learning Continuum.
The Learning Continuum can be used to access the secured, emerging, and future skills of each individual student, or the class as a whole. Visit http://www.richland2.org/map to use the Learning Continuum. You will need to get your username and password from your Technology Specialist.

6. Use the Lexile Ranges for Reading.
The Lexile ranges can help you select reading materials that will test the emerging skills of your students while nurturing their future skills.
