The Board is committed to a policy of nondiscrimination in relation to race, color, religion/religious beliefs, gender, age, national origin, sexual orientation, creed, citizenship status, marital status, political beliefs/affiliation, disability, home language, family, social or cultural background in all matters concerning staff members, students, the public, education programs and services, and individuals with whom the Board does business.
The Equal Opportunity Office (EOO) has three major roles:
• To encourage and ensure equal opportunity.
• To provide a means of redress to individuals who allege unlawful discrimination.
• To foster an inclusive and welcoming environment, reflective of the diversity of our community.
Jay McKenzie accepts, investigates, and responds to general concerns about issues affecting the rights and responsibilities of individuals under equal opportunity laws. Employees, applicants, students and parents should notify the EOO if they feel they have been the victims of discrimination through any District activity or action.
Mr. McKenzie is also one of the District’s hearing officers appointed by the Governing Board. He conducts administrative hearings and makes a determination if a long-term suspension and/or expulsion recommendation is warranted in situations when a student is alleged to have violated the Student Code of Conduct.
