Welcome New Governing Board Members

Amphi Governing Board

On Tuesday, January 10, three members of the Amphitheater Governing Board took the oath of office. Former Board President Deanna Day was re-elected to the Governing Board in November, along with Dr. Scott K. Baker and Ms. Vicki Cox Golder.

Dr. Baker has a long history in the Amphitheater Public School District. He and his wife met when they were students at Amphitheater High School and their three children attended Amphi schools. He is an educator, having taught for over 30 years in a neighboring school district.  Throughout his career, he has taught multiple subject areas and grade levels, provided support to improve student achievement, helped to develop and implement a revised physical education and health curriculum, supported teachers new to the profession as a mentor, and has held numerous leadership roles to benefit the students, teachers, and families in his district. He is proud to have been given an opportunity to give his time and talent back to the Amphi district to ensure current and future students will have the same opportunities as his children. He earned his Ph.D. in Teaching and Teacher Education from the University of Arizona as the result of the research and work he did focusing on curriculum, instruction, and assessment.

Ms. Cox Golder is honored to return to the Amphitheater Governing Board after serving as a member of the board for nine years (1987 – 1996). Her two sons attended Amphitheater schools and three of her grandchildren are now attending schools in the district. Ms. Cox Golder’s background is in real estate and she is the owner of Vicki L. Cox & Associates, a real estate company that has been in business for over 40 years. As a realtor, she was instrumental in finding property for several school sites in the district. She secured the donation from a developer for the current Painted Sky school site as well as the site of the district’s first STEM school, Innovation Academy. During her previous term, she also helped establish the Pima County School Board Superintendent Collaborative, which has continued to have a strong voice at the legislature advocating for issues related to public education. Ms. Cox Golder has also been a longtime supporter of Odyssey of the Mind and continues to serve on the board as Problem Captain and Head Judge at regional and state competitions. She is honored to continue serving Amphitheater students, parents, teachers as a member of the Governing Board.

The Governing Board elected Ms. Jo Grant as the new President and Ms. Deanna M. Day as Vice President.
