Homework
Homework is given Monday-Thursday, and occasionally on Friday. Homework should take about 45 minutes plus 30 minutes of reading time. Students may have additional work to complete at home if the assignments were not finished in class. It is your child’s responsibility to make sure homework is completed and turned in on time. Additionally, it is his/her responsibility to bring you, the parent, anything that needs a parent signature, including the Student Planner and Take Home Folder (THF). Homework is due on the day specified in the planer. (Due dates are always given.)

Assignments need to be neatly written or typed. They should be carefully looked over before turning them in. A heading is written in the upper right hand corner of the paper. It includes the following:
Number
Name
Date
Subject/Assignment/Page

Assignments must be completed by the due date. If homework comes in one day late the grade drops one letter grade; two to five days late is 50%; thereafter it is a zero. Papers with no names are subject to a one-grade reduction (if claimed), or are thrown away if left unclaimed.

If your child is absent he/she will have the opportunity to make up the work. For every day absent he/she will have one day to make up the work, plus an additional day. For example, if your child is absent two days, he/she will have the two days plus one day to hand in his/her work. This would be a total of three days. If there is a problem in completing the missing work due to illness we can work out the details and set goals together.

Grading
Sometimes I will do an informal assessment of student work that will NOT convert to percentage grades in my grade book. Criteria is ALWAYS explained and written for students at the beginning of an assignment (whether it is informal or formal grading).

Informal grading may simply have the following:
+ For all requirements met
Check mark Most requirements met/or simply checked for completion
Check minus Some requirements met
Re-do Requirements not met/re-do to receive credit for the work being completed

Formal Grading
90-100% A
80-89% B
70-79% C
60-69% D
Below 60% F

Report Cards
Grades are determined through a combination of assessment procedures including: observation, group participation, completing and turning in assignments, and formal grades from written work. Mid-terms are sent home midway through each quarter. I will send home a paper for you to sign to verify that you have seen and reviewed these as a family.

You are able to access our grades from my site any time. I will update grades about every two weeks and I will let the students know each time grades are updated. I encourage you to check these grades often so you are aware of your child's progress at all times.
