Re: Position regarding my teaching Intelligent Design, or Creationism, to students @ Cross MS

8/7/09

1. I am opposed to my teaching Intelligent Design or Creationism to my students as a scientific theory.

2. I believe that my (and others’) first knowledge of God’s existence does not come to us through facts, data or a scientific method.

3. I should NOT share my beliefs from my position of authority here at Cross MS, especially if students are required to acknowledge them. Actually, this goes strongly against those beliefs!

4. I will gladly share my strong belief that there is a loving God who made a remarkable creation for us to live in, and that we can learn more about Him through scientific research.

5. I would be extremely uncomfortable allowing conflicting view’s of God’s role to be debated in the realm of science, or in the science classroom.

Parents, I will gladly discuss this issue with you at anytime. I feel that I am in a unique position as a science teacher and active Christian to comfortably discuss creation as it is written in Genesis, as well as current scientific teachings about the creation of the universe.
