| 8th Grade Language Arts
| | We are currently reading The Giver, an award-winning novel about a future society that seems perfect in many ways. But this community has decided that being "safe" is the highest value, and accomplishes this through limiting personal freedom. We are having interesting discussions on the central themes, while working on reading comprehension and literary response skills. When we complete The Giver, we'll go into our Holocaust novels, which continue some of the same themes (personal freedom, euthanasia, etc.).
Students are required to read a science fiction/fantasy book of their choice, and will be completing a book project during the week of Feb. 1st.
