Here's the Scoop on Mrs. Keene!
extra extra newspaper

For those of you who are interested in learning a bit more about me, here's the scoop:
As many of you know, this will be my 5th year here at Harelson Elementary and I am sooooooooooooooooo excited to be teaching at such a fantastic school! I thought you might like to read a little bit about the journey that led me to this spot. After receiving my Bachelor's Degree in Media Arts/Electronic Journalism at the University of Arizona back in the 90's, I spent many years working in TV and radio. While being "on-the-air" was an amazing job, I always felt that I wanted to "make more of a difference."

One day while I was volunteering in my son's classroom, the proverbial "light bulb" went off. I suddenly knew that teaching was something I wanted to do with the rest of my life. It wasn't long before I found myself back in school to earn my Master's Degree in Elementary Education.

I will always remember the day Mr. Heinemann hired me to work at Harelson - it felt like I had won the "educational lottery!" I am so grateful to work with such an amazing group of teachers, students, parents and support staff.

On a personal level, I spent the first half of my life in sunny, Southern California and most of my adulthood here in Tucson. I live with my fantastic husband, and our amazing son who (EEK!) will be starting his junior year at CDO this year (Go Dorados!)! I'm also lucky to have my mom just down the road. You may get to meet her, since she likes to volunteer in our classroom.

I look forward to getting to know you and your children throughout the year!!!
