Introduction |
Schools in Arizona are allocated such low funding that Arizona schools rank among the poorest funded schools in the nation. Funding per student in Arizona is a fraction of what is allocated for a person incarcerated in Arizona's corrections system.
The students in the 8th grade REACH Social Studies class developed an action plan, using Project Citizen protocols, and this site carries their procedures and the presentation brief that they delivered at Cholla High School on May 6, 2004. La Cima students intend to continue the campaign to increase funding for schools in Arizona. |
Task |
Students in the eighth grade REACH Social Studies class will present their final brief as part of Tucson's Law Day event, at Cholla High School, on May 6.
|
Before The Process |
| The students watched a Public Television video produced, by Michael Mulcahey, which explained how Arizona's correction system has expanded over the past two decades. The students understood some of the rationale for the decision to build more correction facilities, and they gathered statistics on the rate of increase in the corrections population per capata in Arizona. Then, they heard Judy Nagle present data and information on Arizona's legislative policy regarding funding for the education and correction systems. Students were given a vast array of resource options that they can use for their presentation research. |
