Welcome to Second Grade
I am so excited to be a "looping" teacher. My class and I will be together this year for second grade, and then we'll all move on together as a group to third grade. Looping provides us with a wonderful opportunity to become an especially strong classroom family, and also allows for long-term progress to be more easily assessed.

We spend the first half of our day focusing on the "Four Blocks:" Guided Reading, Writing, Working with Words, and Self-Selected Reading. The last half of our day is spent working on our Everyday Mathematics curriculum, science, and social studies. Every day is packed with learning in meaningful situations!

About the Teacher
This will be my 20th year as an elementary school teacher, and I'm proud to say that I've been here at Walker for every one of those years. Before becoming a looping teacher and teaching second and third grade, I taught first grade for many years. I was also a first/second grade multiage teacher. I have my Master's degree in Language, Reading, and Culture, with a Reading Specialist endorsement.
