ANNOUNCEMENTS:
The letters from your Japanese penpals are waiting for you in Mrs. Robson's room! Please come get yours ASAP.

About Us

The Ironwood Ridge Japanese Club is a non-profit student organization dedicated to increasing the awareness of Japanese culture in the Ironwood Ridge community.

In the 2007-2008 school year we have started a penpal exchange program with students in Japan who are learning English. This will be a great way for you to learn more about Japanese students and practice your Japanese!

In addition to our Japanese lessons, and regular movie, television and anime showings, we are also working in conjunction with the Creative Writing Club to create our own original manga, which we intend to submit for publication.

If you are interested in joining the Japanese Club please contact Mrs. Robson or attend any one of our informational meetings. The club dues are $5.00 a year, and a permission slip MUST be signed by your parents or legal guardian before you will be allowed to attend any showings.

Things We Enjoy

Japanese Lessons: Japanese lessons were given in Mrs. Robson's room every other Wednesday morning during conference period from 8:30-9:30. We introduced Hiragana & Katakana as well as learning basic conversational Japanese. Handouts for previous can be obtained in Mrs. Robson's room. Please note that all lessons are on hiatus until we get a new volunteer (or until Mrs. Robson can take some Japanese classes over the summer), however there is an extensive library of textbooks in Mrs. Robson's room on learning Japanese. Please come in and use them!

Movies, Television Live Action/Anime & Manga: We have screenings every Thursday during both lunches and evening screenings from 3:30 to 6:00PM (TBA). The initial showings have been determined by club officers. Later showings will be decided in regular club meetings by majority vote. All of our showings are subtitled in English, allowing the non-Japanese-speaking viewer to enjoy this rich and varied cultural form, while enjoying it in its original language.

Original Japanese language books and manga are available in Mrs. Robson's room for you to read. There are also instructional books, tapes, DVDs and cds which are available to use in Mrs. Robson's room.
