Anatomy

Introduction
There is nothing more relevant than the study of anatomy (the structure of the human body) and physiology (the function). The reason for this is simple; we all live in our bodies. It is important that we understand how our bodies work so that we will be able to take good care of them while we are here on earth in these spectacular containers! Your body is covered by your largest organ and is supported from within by your foundation, your skeletal system! All of your body systems have to work together in order to keep you alive and well. This webquest will not only help you to become an expert about your body, but it will allow YOU to become the teacher!

The Task
You are a medical student at the University of Arizona and you have been hired by an educational company to create materials to teach middle school kids about the human body. This work will be done under the supervision of one of the directors of education, either Mrs. Robson or Mrs. Futch.

A team of medical students will research one of eleven systems of the human body. These systems include: Circulatory, Digestive, Endocrine, Muscular, Nervous, Reproductive, Respiratory, Skeletal, Integumentary, Immune and Urinary.

Teams will be chosen using a random selection process, in which medical students draw one of the eleven systems out of a container. Students who draw the same system will work together to research the system they have drawn. At least two, but not more than three, medical students will make up each team.

Each team will be expected to present their system to their colleagues and supervisors.

The Immune System
http://uhaweb.hartford.edu/bugl/immune.htm
This website was found by one of my students. It has lots of information about the immune system.

Also try searching for a specific system using a search engine such as Google or Metacrawler. If you find good, reliable sites share them so that they can be added to this site.

In addition please also use the senior level Anatomy & Physiology textbook on the cart. Please make sure to return the books to the cart when you are finished as these are on LOAN and must be returned to the Anatomy & Physiology classes.

Process
Information that is needed includes the following:

1. A detailed explaination of which organs make up the system.
2. A detailed explaination of the function of these organs within the system.
3. A detailed explaination of how the system functions within the body.
4. Diagrams and/or illustrations of the system. (cite sources!)
5. A detailed explaination of disorders associated with the system.
6. References for all of your information and photos/pictures used in parts 1-5 please use MLA format (see http://easybib.com/ if you need a refresher.)

You will be creating a presentation that will be given to your colleagues and supervisors. You should have at LEAST five sections in your presentation that address the above information. An example would be a website that includes a page on each of the above areas.

Your presentation may follow one of the following formats:
