Grading Scale 90-100+ A 80-89.9 B 70-79.9 C 60-69.9 D Honor Roll Presentations:
Mr. Hannah will come to our classroom to present the Principal's Honor Roll for a 4.0 GPA to students at the end of every grading period. A Wrangler Honor Roll is presented to students with a 3.5 GPA with no grade lower than a C. Handwriting does not count toward the total GPA. Progress Updates:
Every Friday students will receive an envelope of graded papers and update of weekly progress. Please keep and review the papers with your child and sign the envelope before returning it to school on Monday. Your signature and returned envelope counts as homework for your child!
I will send home a computer printout of your child's grades at midterm. At any time, if a problem or particular challenge arises, I will notify you by phone or email and send a printout if necessary at that time. Feel free to email me at csenn@amphi.com . Homework Policy: Although it may incite moans and groans, homework is a sound practice when used to practice, review, promote good study habits, encourage responsibility and consequences for not meeting obligations, to keep parents informed about what their child is doing in school, and give parents the opportunity to show their children how much they value education.
Students will bring home a daily assignment book/planner listing all homework, sometimes notes, smiley faces, and suggestions from the teacher!
Please check the homework hotline for daily updates at 696-5800, choosing #4 for the hotline, then follow the instructions to access Mrs. Senn's Homework Hotline.
Late assignments will be accepted with a 10% deduction on the following day. Students with excused absences will be allowed to make up work within the same amount of days that they were out of school.
Basic Daily Homework:
Reading: Students should read 20-30 minutes every day to achieve their reading goals this year. Students may read their A-Z pamphlets and/or appropriate books at their independent reading level and report their comprehension through the reading log. Parents, please sign the Wrangler Reading Sheets so that your child can earn credit toward their reading grade. One sheet per month is required for a grade in reading.
Book Reports: One presentation, assigned as homework, will be due each quarter. If your student needs more time to complete reading their book, it will be assigned as homework.
Math: Students will start the homework practice sheet/s in class and should be able to finish during class. I will work in small groups with any students having a particular problem with the content. Whatever math work isn't finished, please finish for homework.
Feel free to send me a note if you see your child could use extra help or an extra challenge.
Parents, please check that your child is getting most of the problems correct.
Also students must pass basic +, -, x, / facts, 100 facts in five minutes with 5 or less errors before December break. Please practice these daily.
Math chapter tests are usually on Friday. A practice test will be coming home on Thurs. or the night prior to the test day to help students review. I have found that students who review the practice test with their parents are most successful on the actual math test!
DOL- Daily Oral Language: Prepare for the Friday test by reviewing the corrected DOL workbook Thursday evening.
Spelling: We will start the unit in class each Friday. Students will complete the unit as homework due on Thursday!
Students will keep a list of words they should know by 4th grade and will be tested on these as well.
Students should use cursive in their workbooks. I am expecting all spelling unit words to be spelled correctly on the worksheets, since practicing the words is the intent. Prepare for the Thursday test on Wednesday evening.
Science and Social Studies: Infrequent homework, most of the work is done in class. Occassionally a test will be assigned a week prior to the test day to give students time to prepare.
Science Fair is usually in February. Information will be discussed and sent home prior to Winter Break.
