| "Give me a J... Give me an O... Help me cheer my name guys!" 2007/2008 |
|
During the beginning of the school year, we learned a lot about the alphabet by working to recognize and spell our friends names. Everyday we picked a mystery name. We built their name with letter cards and chanted the letters like cheerleaders. Later, we drew a detailed picture of each person and practiced writing their name in a name book. We also worked in centers playing many fun letter games. |

In our class we follow a balanced literacy program. The students participate in literacy centers focusing on letter and sound recognition, reading strategies, sight word recognition, and various other language arts state standards. The students also participate in many whole group activities. The goals of these activities and lessons are to create kids who love to read and who have the knowledge and tools to be successful readers. We read many poems, sing songs, learn about words and of course have a lot of fun! The following pictures show you just a few of our recent literacy center activities! |
