I am looking forward to working with the 2008-2009 class of 7th and 8th graders this year.
A little about me:
I received a Bachelor's of Science in General Biology, with a split minor in Chemistry/Math/and Physics in 1997 from the University of Arizona. After that I went back to school at Chapman University to earn a teaching certificate and ultimately a Master of Arts in Curriculum and Instruction in 2001.
I meet all the guidelines imposed by both the No Child Left Behind Act as well as upcoming state requirements for a degree in the content area in which I teach. I have a General Science endorsement on my teaching certificate in addition to being certified to teach K-8.
This is my fourth year at Cross Middle School, but my ninth year teaching after having taught 5th grade for three years and 6th grade for two years. Since I have taught all the subjects, I try to make a lot of connections to the other disciplines. I want my students to see that science is more than just knowledge and white lab coats, but a way of thinking that both affects and can be used in all other areas of our lives.
I also consider myself a life long learner, especially in learning to become the best teacher I can be through workshops and other professional development. I participated in the National Science Foundation's Research Experience for Teachers the last two summers by working in a research laboratory at the U of A and am currently taking graduate classes in Educational Leadership.
Please contact me if you have any questions or concerns about what goes on in this classroom. |
