Welcome to Ms. Van Deurzen-Polakowski's Web Page
Welcome to the third grade. There are many learning experiences we will share this year and I look forward to an exciting and productive time working with you and your child. I believe learning should be filled with inquiry and joy. My challenge is to make the experiences that occur in this classroom memorable for your child.

My Philosophy
Throughout this academic year your children will become researchers of their own environment. As students engage themselves in learning they will be encouraged to be critical thinkers and deepen their knowledge. When we envision learning as inquiry, we see a community of learners in the process of collaboratively constructing knowledge on both a personal and social level.

Our community will be formed as each student realizes the knowledge and value that they learn from one another. In a collaborative community both teacher and student openly live as learners and make their learning available to others. As we learn through action, reflection, and demonstration, the focus is on being problem posers, as well as problem solvers, through the process of inquiry.

My role as a teacher is to create the environment, to supply the tools to keep it running smoothly, and to observe and respond to the students' interests and needs, all the time helping them to continue learning.
