This important information will help you to understand the expectations for this year, and will give you the best chance of earning the highest grade possible. Please read carefully and ask about an item you are unsure about.

What to Wear |
All students are expected to wear a Cross Physical Education uniform everyday. This includes shorts, t-shirt, socks, and safe practical shoes or cleats. You can wear compression or spandex shorts under your P.E. shorts if you like. Socks are important for hygiene and will reduce the chances of various foot rashes/infections. If you do not dress out in your Physical Education uniform you will not be able to earn your points for the day. Loaners cannot be worn in class.
We also recommend that when the colder days arrive all students have a sweatshirt, sweatpants, and/or a jacket available. However, your Physical Education uniform needs to be worn underneath these warmer clothes. These "extra" items can all be kept in your Physical Education locker. We do go outside in the cooler weather!
A baseball cap may be worn in class for sun protection. The cap needs to be worn the way it was intended to be worn, with the bill of the cap forward. No other type or style of hat is permitted.
Your Physical Education shirt needs to be tucked into your shorts. No shirts will be worn outside and over your shorts. The waistband of your shorts needs to be at your waist and not at your hips or below. If a student is observed with shorts that are being sagged, he/she will be reminded to wear them properly and the daily grade will be reduced (refer to the grading policies discussed later in this handout).
Uniforms that are torn or altered must be repaired or replaced. We strongly recommend that uniforms be taken home every weekend and washed.
Athletic shoes, whether they are sneakers or tennis shoes worn in class must be tied correctly, the "old fashioned" way. The bow and knot is to be on the outside of the shoe and the laces pulled tight. The shoes worn in class are supposed to be worn with the purpose of staying on your feet, providing support, protection and traction for the various activities that we do in class. Even though it is stylish to wear your shoes in a different manner it is unacceptable for Physical Education classes. Shoes not tied correctly will result in the loss of your points for the day. |
Jewelry |
| For your safety, as well as, for the safety of others, earrings (only stud earrings can be worn), bracelets, watches, and necklaces are not allowed to be worn to class - this includes jewelry in your lips, nose and around your eyes. If seen, you will be asked to remove the jewelry. Removal of the jewelry is a must in order for you to participate. |
Locks and Lockers |
All students are assigned a lock and locker. We strongly recommend that students never give out their lock combinations to anyone. This is how personal items and the locks themselves get lost or stolen. Students are not allowed to share a locker with another student. We will never give a student the combination of another student's lock.
Lost locks must be replaced at the cost of $7.00. Make sure the lock is locked before you leave the locker room.
Only Physical Education assigned locks may be used. If an unauthorized lock is found on a locker, the lock will be cut off.

Grading |
All students are graded daily. Daily grades are based on the following criteria:
1-Attendance and Dressing Out (10 points)
Students are expected to be on time to class. That means in the locker room by the time the late bell rings. The only exception would be a student who has an "excused" pass from a teacher. A student will lose 5 points for an unexcused tardy. If the problem persists, further disciplinary action will be taken.
A student must also be ready when roll call is taken. Any delay will result in the loss of 5 points.
A student not having his/her Physical Education uniform at school may not be able to participate in the activity the rest of the class is doing. It is the student's responsibility to be ready for this class just as any other class. We require uniforms to be worn for the safety, hygiene, and comfort of the student.
If a student has a uniform that has been altered or torn, this will be treated the same as if he/she did not have his uniform at school. Any extenuating circumstances will be dealt with accordingly. Only the student's name should be written on the uniform.
2-Participation (10 points)
"Participation" means that a student gives their best effort in all activities, from the start of class through the end of the activity of the day. It also includes having a good attitude, staying on task, and following directions.
3-Behavior (10 points)
Absolutely no horseplay will be permitted in the locker room. Students are expected to enter the locker room, use good common sense, and get changed into their PE uniform. The awarding of behavior points will start as soon as you enter the locker room until you leave the locker room at the end of class.
Appropriate language is expected in the locker room, as well as, during the activities we are doing. Students are expected to treat each other with respect.
All students should be aware that poor behavior will adversely affect participation just as good behavior will greatly help the student participate fully.
If the teacher has to talk to a student regarding any distraction, disruption or, if the class must be stopped due to an issue involving a student's behavior or lack of effort, that student can be assured he/she is losing points from their daily grade.
4-Tests (100 points)
A demonstration test will be performed periodically by each student throughout the sememster, as a means of review, to make sure that each student knows how to perform the various stations that we will be utilizing.
5-One mile and Two mile run (100 points)
During the week, each student will perform a one mile run and a two mile run within a specified period of time in order to earn their points of the day. As the year goes on the time allowed will decrease. No partial credit will be given.

Miscellaneous |
If a student needs to be excused from class due to an illness or injury, a written excuse from a parent/guardian/doctor is needed. The parent/guardian may be called for further clarification of the problem. If a student can still dress out and participate, even in a minimal way, we prefer this to not participating at all. Each case will be dealt with individually.
Personal belongings kept in a student's physical education locker should not contain any glass containers. This might be cologne or perhaps something for another class. We ask that any glass containers that a student needs to carry be given to one of the teachers until the end of class. We do not want any broken glass on the locker room floor.
Along with the report cards that are issued quarterly, grades will be posted at least every two weeks online..
