Here is what we do each day and approximately when we do it. |
School begins at 7:55 a.m. I open the door for students at 7:50 (when the first bell rings). At 7:55 the tardy bell rings. Between 7:55 and 8:00 students are expected to be unpacked, ready for the day, scanning their math homework, and doing morning work. The school day ends at 2:25 p.m. (and we aim to leave the classroom at 2:28) except for on Tuesdays when it ends at 12:25.
Special classes for all third grade students are each day from 8:15-9:05 a.m., except for on Tuesdays (8:05-8:40). Students attend special classes on a two-week rotation schedule. In a two week period, third grade students attend pe class four times, art class three times, the computer lab once, and go to the library once. Third grade students will not take music class.
* morning bathroom break - about 10 a.m. * lunch, bathroom break, and recess - 11:45-12:25 p.m. (11:10-11:40 on Tuesdays) * afternoon bathroom break - as needed (the afternoon, after lunch and lunch recess, is about two hours long)
* math class - 9:10-10:05 a.m. (8:45-9:45 on Tuesdays) * reading class - 10:45-11:40 a.m. (9:50-10:25 on Tuesdays) * Rocket Math (multiplication facts practice) - in the morning * teacher read aloud - 3 out of 5 afternoons after lunch * spelling and writing lessons - in the afternoon (right before and after lunch on Tuesdays) * grammar lesson - during reading class * cursive handwriting lesson - in the morning * social studies lesson - Mondays and Wednesdays in the afternoon * science lesson - Thursdays and Fridays in the afternoon * silent reading - during reading class, as time permits throughout the day, and just before the end of the school day on some days |
