Welcome to 8th Grade REACH!
We will be using the We the People program for the first semester. For an inside look, go to the web address above. I am very excited about using this great program!

Eighth Grade REACH Humanities
REACH for 8th grade is called REACH humanities. It is basically social studies taught in a manner so that the gifted students can learn in their own individual way. The social studies curriculum for 8th grade, and the Arizona State Standards are the bases from which the content is taught. The content covers United States and Arizona state government as well as the historical period from the end of The Great Depression through the present time. Lessons require students to use critical and creative thinking skills.

The first semester will be the government unit. During this unit we will explore what it means to be a citizen, the influences on the Founding Fathers, the Declaration of Independence, the Constitution and Bill of Rights, and the structure and workings of the government.

The second semester will cover the end of the 19th century and continue up through the current time. The emphasis will be on the twentieth century from the 1940's through the 1980's.
