About Mr. Vaccaro, et al
I was born in a little city called, Norwich, New York, who’s single claim to fame is being the birthplace of Pepto Bismal! When I was 13 we moved to Tucson, where I graduated from Amphi Junior High School and later from Amphi High School. In my younger days, I was a pretty good athlete. I once ran a mile in 5:19 and in 1973, I was the AZ State HS Wrestling Champion at 138 pounds! (For you non-believers, I have proof of the latter accomplishment—it was a lot of years and a lot of pounds ago!). In 1977, I graduated from the United States Air Force Academy (Go Falcons!) and joined the active duty Air Force. For the next 18+ years I conducted and managed research and development of training systems, to include advanced flight simulators, helmet mounted visual displays, and intelligent computer-based training systems. Along the way, I picked up a Master of Science degree from Arizona State (Go Sun Devils!!) in Industrial Engineering (Human Factors Design). In 1996, I decided to make a career change and become a teacher, earning my Teaching Certificate through Chapman University.
I am entering my 12th year of teaching math at Coronado MS.
My wife of 32 years, Michelle is a “native” Tucsonan, also a graduate of Amphi Junior High School and Amphi High School, (my high school sweetheart), an alumnus of that lesser Arizona University (Go Mildcats!), a registered nurse, and co-owner / manager of THE BEST Dairy Queen in Southern Arizona (23 West Prince Road).
We are blessed with two adult daughters: Dyann, a graduate of the University of Phoenix with a degree in computer science and Gina, a graduate of Loyola Marymount University in Film and Television Production and a Second Lieutenant in the United States Air Force! She is stationed at Randolph Air Force Base in San Antonio,Texas. We also have two surrogate children (dogs) named Duke (terrier mix) and Ella (mini-pinscher).
