Welcome to High School English
Regardless of whether you are enrolled in Mrs. Kane's on-level English 9 or Pre-AP English 9, you will have many opportunities to improve your literacy skills this year. Every unit will include critical thinking, reading, writing, listening, and speaking.

In addition to reading traditional works of classic literature, students will also read at least 3 hours per week from self-selected books. In class, we will develop grammar and usage skills in the context of daily reading and writing practice.

Course Information
Mrs. Kane has taught English for a total of 25 years, 16 in West Texas and 9 at Canyon del Oro High School. In 2006, she earned certification in English Language Arts from the National Board of Professional Teaching Standards. This year, Mrs. Kane teaches 3 sections of English 9 and 2 of Pre-AP English 9. She has served as department chair for 4 years.

The course outlines for all English classes at CDO are designed to support the Arizona State Standards. Throughout the year, students in all classes will practice skills needed to master the objectives on the AIMS test.
