The Wonderful World of U.S. History
|
Welcome! State standards for the 7th grade cover the period in American History from the beginning of the Civil War up to and including the Great Depression; the development, function and structure of the Government; the impact of geography and economic factors; and the impact of developments outside the United States. AND we will have fun doing it!
We will also work on developing specific skills that are required for understanding and comprehending Information text as described in the State Standards for Reading: 7th grade - Strand 3, concept 1. Please note that the due dates for their current event presentations have changed this quarter. Students will need to compete one every two weeks (Aug. 28th, Sept. 11th, 25th and Oct. 7th).
In response to some the questions about the movies: we use only PG-13 or lower ratings, the copy of Glory we use is a Clean Film version and we only view scenes that support the material we are currently reviewing {ex. In Glory the training scenes, interactions with the white soldiers and the last battle, in Dances with Wolves – the scenes where he interacts with the Native Americas upon his arrival at the fort.} The requirements for this quarter's project(s) and due dates can be found on the Current Event, etc. page starting the week of Aug. 31th.
Let the fun begin!!!!
