REACH / Honors Internship Program

The REACH and Honors Internship curriculum will focus on four broad themes for the 2008-2009 academic year. Students will immerse themselves in investigations which will develop the themes of self-awareness; team dynamics; business and personal ethics; and skill development for success in college and beyond. Each theme will require completion of projects, and internship assignments. Class projects will make up a large part of a students' grade. Only the students' best work will be accepted. The classroom benefits greatly from frequent and enthusiastic classroom participation by everyone; therefore a part of students' grade will be based on their participation in class.

REACH Services for students will center on academic discipline. We will work both in teams and individually as performance in the class emphasizes creativity and teamwork. Students will consider alternatives and produce solutions for challenging problems.

About the teacher...
Educating students is my second career. I began teaching after 27 years in the computer industry. During those years, I was fortunate to have had various work assignments which took me to many fascinating places in the world. I grew up in Minnesota and received my degree in English from St. Thomas University. I lived in the peaceful St. Croix river valley in southeastern Minnesota where I served as Mayor of a little town called Lakeland Shores. After moving to Arizona, life has become a little slower for me; and now I enjoy riding my Harley in the beautiful Southwest.
I started teaching in 2001. I've taught physics, chemistry, biology, math and language arts. I very much enjoy teaching gifted and talented students, and I love to teach by taking advantage of the latest technological tools and resources. My classroom environment is one that stimulates students' curiosity and helps develop young minds to their fullest potential.

To be successful in my class...
  • Treat everyone, including yourself, with dignity and respect.
  • Bring your tools.
  • Do your work.
