The Rebecca Sitton Spelling Program - Core Words with Activities
Painted Sky has implemented the "Rebecca Sitton" spelling program school wide. This program emphasizes correct spelling in daily writing by teaching the highest frequency writing words, those words that are being used most frequently through a lifetime of writing. I will be teaching words, called Core Words, through various activities, especially writing. Your child will learn about spelling rules, patterns (light, right, night), letter sounds for spelling prefixes, suffixes and many other related language skills. This will enhance your child's understanding and achievement in spelling as well as build general language abililty. After the unit on a group of Core Words has been taught, these words will become review words. The students will learn 134 Core Words this year. They will also be reponsible for 65 Priority Words (No Excuse Words).

This year we will be using the EveryDay Math series. The emphasis in third grade is on the use of additin, subtraction, multiplication and division as they relate to problem solving activities. Students will learn to master multiplication and division facts while maintaining addition and subtraction facts already learned. Practice at home is essential to success in this area. The math program will be supplemented with hands on activites and games, which reinforce concepts introduced.
