A Nation Divided: The Civil War

It has been said that if you listen to something, you will remember only a small amount of that information. If you interact with something, you will remember about half of it. If you teach something, you remember almost all of it. This is the premise behind the project for our Civil War unit - you get to teach! The best part is that you will be able to research topics that you are interested in!

The Format: Each student will be choosing a topic to research within a particular category (Discussed in class). There may be several students within a category-group, so each student within a group will need to choose a different focus. Your individual research will result in a final “product” which can be shared within their group and the class (refer to “product list for examples”).

What is due… and when: The final due date will be Monday, November 24th (providing 5 weeks for research). Throughout the project, students will be required to meet deadlines for smaller pieces (such as research summaries, paragraph rough drafts, etc.) which will help their organization and preparation for the final product.

Grading: The final product will be worth will be worth 150 points (in addition to the smaller assignments leading up to the final product) and will be based on a combination of factual accuracy and depth, creativity, thoroughness and complexity.
