Overall Grading Policy
While a majority of our work will be done in class, there will be homework assigned. This may be in the form of completing work not finished in class, folllow-up work relating to material we have just covered in class, or work to do in preparation of the next class (usually reading). I will attempt to keep these updated in the "Assignments" link on my home page - however, I may not be able to list everything, especially if it's something shown as "classwork", but not finished during class time. If you have any questions at all, please do not hesitate to contact me.

Additional policies on grading:

• All student work must be turned in on time to receive full credit.
• Work turned in must be 100% of the students' own work, unless specifically instructed otherwise.
• I do not have "extra credit" assignments to replace work that should have been done. I do, however, give credit beyond students required work that explores deeper topics that we cover in class (limited to 5% of the students' grade).

By district policy, students with excused absences will be allowed to make up work within the same amount of days that they were out of school.

Grading Scale
When grading, I use a rubric created by involving the students themselves and apply it consistently to all work - this way, students know what I expect of them and their work habits. My grading is based on the following:

Effort/Quality: neat, legible, best effort, determination, concentration, own words, complete, has a clear point
Organization: details, complete sentences or paragraphs (beginning/middle/end), fluency (flows), sequence (time, when appropriate),
Conventions: spelling, grammar, punctuation
Ideas: originality, creativity, your own work, accurate details, shows understanding, focused on topic

Overall grades are based on points received out of total points possible:

100-90% - A (Superior)
89-80% - B (Above Average)
79-70% - C (Average)
69-60% - D (Below Average)
Below 60% - Not Passing/In Progress

(*note, in most cases, an "F" is only given if a student "fails" to turn in the work)

In addition, I break a students' overall grade into the following categories and approximate percentages:

Classwork (30%) - Work assigned/done during the regular class day.
Homework (30%) - Work assigned for completion outside of class.
Tests/Quizzes (30%) - Regular chapter/unit evaluations.
Organization (5%) - Notebook/folder and Planner checks.
Performance (5%) - Participation, On-task, etc.
