Dear Parents;

Welcome to a new month! It is so hard to believe that we are quickly approaching the mid-way point of the first quarter! With that in mind, please know that Athletic Progress Reports are being collected by the coaches for each sport – whether or not your son or daughter participates in any of the fall sports, it is a good idea to check in on their progress and contact us if you have any questions or concerns!

For my Social Studies classes, we’re continuing with our study of the culture prior to the Civil War, now shifting our attention to the South. We will be having our first test mid-month (be sure to check Assignment calendars each week), and then beginning our study of the events leading up to our nation’s Civil War.

For my REACH classes, we are beginning our Independent Study Projects. While we will be spending some class time in the Library and Computer Labs to allow students to research their topics, students should also be working (at least periodically) on this at home. One of the research parameters will be to have students contacting and interviewing a professional in the field of their topic. In addition, I will be reviewing their grades in each of their academic classes to intervene if necessary.

In this election season, I am encouraging my students to find out information about the candidates and topics and to discuss the people and issues with you at home. As we near the general election in November, we will be having regular classroom discussions on these topics in preparation for Coronado’s participation in Kid’s Voting on Election Day!

It was great to meet many of you at the Open House we had last week… I emphasize again that if you ever have any questions or what to speak with me, I make myself available for you. Please let me know!
