Dear Parents;

I warmly welcome my students back from Fall Break! I hope that all of you were able to take advantage of the wonderful weather we have this time of year, and spend some quality family time together!

For my Social Studies classes, we’re diving headlong into the Civil War, starting right off with our Civil War Inquiry Project. We’ll start by brainstorming questions that students have, and then organizing these questions into categories. Students will be breaking into smaller groups according to these categories for further research. Please note, while students will be grouped in categories, each student will be researching on their own within that category. Information on the inquiry project is available here.

For my REACH classes, we will be wrapping up presenting our Independent Study Projects right after break. For this second quarter, our major project focus will be to prepare a positional debate on an issue of their choosing. More information will be coming home on this project once the Independent Research Projects are finished.

Also, my student teacher, Dawn Willman, is well on her way to becoming a great teacher. The first quarter has worked quite well, and he participation in the classroom has been a great asset to the kids. This quarter will be participating more directly with the students. During the second semester, she will be taking on two classes fully as she develops and prepares for the completion of her Masters in Education.

Thank you so much for your support – and as always, if you have any questions or concerns, please don’t hesitate to contact me!
