Getting Started With Fine Arts
|
The Fine Arts elective is your opportunity to design your own art project or set of art projects outside the scope of the studio art class taught by Mrs. Callahan. You may choose projects in the realm of either Fine Arts or Crafts. You may work on your projects at school during your study time, at home, or both. You must meet with Mrs. Callahan at least once a week to discuss your project and the progress you are making.
Grading and Credit You may work toward either .25 or .50 credit each nine-week marking period. If your goal is .25 credit, you must complete at least 30 hours worth of artwork. If your goal is .50 credit, you must complete at least 60 hours worth of artwork. In order to achieve a high Fine Arts grade, you must continue to challenge yourself and must choose to focus on either improving the breadth or the depth of your artistic knowledge. If you choose to improve the breadth of your knowledge, you must expose yourself to different forms of art and art methods and try out things that are new for you. If you choose to improve the depth of your artistic knowledge or ability, you must choose one medium, (e.g. oil painting) and continue to work on projects in that medium at increasingly difficult levels.
Recording Your Progress You will be required to record your progress by keeping a Learning Log, by posting to the class wiki, and by meeting with Mrs. Callahan on a weekly basis
The Learning Log Once your project is approved by Mrs. Callahan, you will begin keeping a learning log to record when you work on your project. You may keep this log in a notebook, a journal, on a separate piece of paper, or in your art sketchbook, but must also post your log information on the wiki. At the top of the paper, write these things: DATE TIME SPENT BRIEF DESCRIPTION SIGNATURE Each time you work on your project, record the date, the amount of time you spent, a brief description of what you did (you will give Mrs. Callahan a longer verbal description later) and leave a place blank for Mrs. Callahan to initial as she reviews your work. Bring this Learning Log and your work in progress with you each time you meet with Mrs. Callahan. If you do not bring your work, you will be asked to reschedule.
Class Wiki Keep your learning log on the class wiki! See Mrs. Callahan for details and the password to get started.
Meeting With Mrs. Callahan Because Fine Arts is not a class, you will need to arrange a time to meet with Mrs. Callahan each week. Please do not show up randomly to campus and assume that she will be immediately available to discuss your art project. Instead, compare your schedule and hers and find a time to set aside each week to meet that is agreeable to both your schedules. Before you meet with Mrs. Callahan, you must post your progress to the class wiki. You must meet with Mrs. Callahan a minimum of six times during the course of your project. She must be able to see your project in progress several times in order to evaluate your progress and give you credit. Also, please remember that it is your responsibility to remember to meet with Mrs. Callahan each week, and it is not Mrs. Callahan's responsibility to remind you or come find you when you forget.
Sounds Great, I'm Ready To Start! See Mrs. Callahan to discuss your project idea, then log onto the class wiki, set up an account and you can get started! Enjoy!
