2nd grade Homework Policy
•Everyone gets a new homework assignment on Friday. It is due the following Friday.

•Students who do not turn in homework books will not be given new books to take home until the others are returned. They will need to read library books or books from home for their new homework.

•Students who turn in incomplete homework or no homework will receive a lower grade. After the 3rd time, students will need to complete their homework during recess.

•Lost books cost $6.00 each.

Homework

If homework seems TOO DIFFICULT:
Adjust the number of words your child is studying.
Break it down into shorter periods of study time.
Study small amounts of time everyday.
Limit homework to about twenty minutes a day plus reading.

If homework seems TOO EASY:
Add a couple of challenge words to the list.
Write a book report each week. Be creative, go to the library and learn about the author. Read other books by the same author. Ask your child if they have any ideas for extending their homework.

If your child NEEDS MOTIVATION:
Create a homework tub full of new and exciting supplies to be used only during homework time,(i.e. highlighters, glitters glue, fancy scissors, ets.)
Break the routine, read to grandma over the phone, read to stuffed animals.
Change the setting where you read. Read outside, go to the library, start a neighborhood book club and include fun incentives.

I really appreciate your support with your child's homework!!!

Wrangler Reader -

Another part of Second Grade Homework is reading for 30 minutes a day or 2 1/2 hours a week. Please be sure to sign the Wrangler Reader sheets for your child. Not only is this a record for grading purposes, it will ensure your child an invitation to the end-of-the year Reading Celebration. Please send in your sheet at the end of each month. We have some class rewards for top readers as well.

Next week the students will be asked to complete an experiment of their choice about the body. The link on the left has all the information needed for this homework.

Here is a link to the Book Report pages for your book report. Be sure to have me check your book before starting with the project. Also, it must be a "just right pick" for you.

Here is a link to the first 200 words list. These are the words that all students should be using successfully by the end of the year. Please help your child edit his/her homework sentences so that these words are spelled correctly.
