| Just Arrived |
We are beginning our study of the Manduca. This will be a continuous investigation into the life of this little critter. At this point the students are "wondering" what these little eggs/critters could possibly become. They are questioning, investigating and learning. This is the inquiry process at its best!!! Please check back often as the pictures will be updated as we continue to watch them grow and develop into........ |

Safe on paper toweling in their new habitat. Some have already hatched but there are many more to go!! Food is waiting for them up above. |
Just a traveler!! So very tiny after newly hatching. Now the journey begins!! |
The little black part on the left side shows a manduca trying to come out of his egg. |
These little guys climb on a wire frame to reach their food on the top!! |

| Up Close and Personal |
Moving along the wire looking for food. We went in close with the microscope to see if we could capture the legs and bumps on our critter!!! |
This little guy found the food sorce and we got a look at him nibbling on his food. |
If you look closely at the wire and then the manduca you can tell how fast these little guys are growing!!! |
If you look closely you can see a one day old manduca and compare him to the other manducas. They share their food sorce well. |
We found one with an infection and dying. We had to take it out of our habitat. |
These guys are growing and growing!! |
The wire they are on is centimeter wire!! Only eight days and they are already a centimeter. |
This is a good view of the breathing holes for our manduca. The lines are camouflage or protection for this little critter. |
This close-up of the head shows how bumps are developing. These are probably a scare tactic to ward off predators. |
This close up shows how delicate the manduca legs are at this stage. |
Day 9 and growing strong. It is hard to believe the difference in these guys just over night!! |
The larva went from about a centimeter to 1 1/2 centimeters in one day! WOW!!! |
Another close-up of the legs and head. |
