Reading Comprehension
In this class we will be reading novels with high interest levels for students. We will be focusing on main idea, comprehension, prediction, sequencing, inferencing, vocabulary, making connections, fact/opinion, and other comprehension strategies. There will also be some short essay writing to go along with the novels.
The students are also required to read for 20 minutes a night (Mon-Thurs)and keep a reading log. The log will be handed out weekly for students to fill in and have a parent sign off on. They may read anything they choose. If they have homework from another class and it requires reading, that can count for their reading log.
Accelerated Reader
As part of the curriculum in my reading class, each student is reading an Accelerated Reader book of their choice. These books are broken up by grade level. Once they read the book, they take a test on the computer which awards certain points based on the book, and how well they do. This can also be used towards their reading log.
